THE ART OF RAP DEFINITION DJ E.ROCK MOVIE REVIEW

"IF YOU LOVE HIP HOP,  MAKE SOME FUCKIN' NOISE..."  Definition DJ ERock

Hip Hop DJs across the D/FW were invited to a private screening of Ice T's new movie,
The Art of Rap on Tuesday night (May 8th).  Hip Hop DJs represented at
Quixotic World Magical Event Space in Deep Elum.  Below is my take on the movie...

This movie breaks down the true, original elements of hip hop; the DJ, the Rappper and the MC.....  This movie is definitely for the old school hip hop heads!  Ice T showed lots of love to the innovators and originators of hip hop!  He highlighted it's roots, starting out in New York where it all began, with excitingly candid interviews featuring Afrika Bambaataa, Curtis Blow, KRS One, Chuck D, Dougie Fresh, Run DMC and many of the cats who paved the way for the hip hop culture with scratching, rapping, b-boxing, street battling and more!

His freshman directing project showed how hip hop has crossed color lines by highlighting Eminens contributions to the game.  Then topping it off in Los Angeles, with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dog, Xzibit, Ice Cube and more Westcoast innovators.

I don't expect to see many younger rap fans going to see this movie because rap is build off what's poppin now and what's new.  Althought it sad, but true, the younger hip hop fans doesn't always show respect to the Legends who came before them.  Where have we gone wrong; that we don't pay homeage to the ones that started this shit?

I would have liked to have seen more southern artist who have made major impacts during the growth of hip hop.  Naw, we didn't start it (like my Girl said), but show a lil respect to New Orleans, Memphis, Houston and ATL.  The south has played a major role in where hip hop is today and the progression of the art form.
Look at artist like, Kendrick Lamar, Currency, and Big Krit; they are basically taking hip hop back to its original art form (when Niccas really had to spit)!

We are always asked,  where is hip hop today?  Where does it stand right now?  For me, it's bigger than ever because you can be from any city and get discovered!  That's the beauty of  hip hop!  Plus, the inernet has bridedged the gap.  It allows us to see a variety of talent from around the world!  Hip hop lives and breaths in every city in the world.  It starts from the streets.

Over all I give this movie a 8.5 because it's missing some key people.  If you really want to learn the history of Hip Hop, if you want to hear it straight from the creators and innovators of this unique art form; then, this movie is a must see!
